wizard
For Solfest festival this year, I created a wizard costume for their theme day "Medieval". It was a lot of fun to make, and I dangerously fought off an army of people dressed as knights with nowt but a bubble wand.
I forgot to document most of the creation process, but it mostly involved customising a cape with silver stars from an old jacket I cut up, creating some witchy jewellery from wonderfully ugly second hand pieces and a fake rat skull I found years ago, taking an old bag and sewing it to make a belt bag, and adjusting of existing second hand clothes (including my grandmas old blouse) to create the final look.
Not the most relevant to an illustration degree, but I did find a lot of joy in creating this, from a few sketches while brainstorming a costume, to finding all the parts, and crafting things together to create a final cosplay.

making my own accessories
I designed a pattern for and sewed two sets of leg warmers. One to match a skirt I own (hunting down similar fabric was hell on earth), involving three layers of fabric, two creating the layered pleats, and the third as a black top cuff that laces up for maximum security.
The second pair are made from an old fluffy poncho I found in Aldi's clearance, created with a zip up the front and elasticated top, to match a bag I love that looks like a plushie demon.
Sewing is time consuming and painful, even when making simple garments or adjusting existing ones. It takes patience, good hand eye coordination, a technical understanding of the machine, and cannot be rushed without sacrificing a LOT in quality.
I'm learning a lot about patience and the need for a strict attention to detail.
